About Neighbourhood Partnerships
Neighbourhood Partnerships: Working together to make your area
a better place to be.
What is a Neighbourhood Partnership?
We have 12 Neighbourhood Partnerships (NPs) in Edinburgh. Each
one is made up of a variety of people including local Councillors
representing the Council and representatives from the Police,
Health the voluntary sector and the local community, represented by
Community Councils.
Although the NPs have boards that meet regularly, in between, we
all work together to improve the quality of life in your area. Much
of the work that we do is coordinated through a local community
plan, which explains what needs to be done, and how it will be
done.
Improving the way we work
On 30 September 2009, a one off event - Going Forward Together - was
held for 185 delegates representing each of the 12 NP areas. The
day aimed to help us work better as partners by focussing on what
we can achieve together.
You can find out more about that event by reading the report from
the day.
How are you involved?
Because you live in your local community, you are the best
people to ask about local issues and how best public services
should be delivered there.
Your views are very important to us. They help us to shape local
community plans, set priorities for each area and identify when
there is an issue that needs to be addressed. We are always
interested in hearing from people in the community directly.
We also use a variety of ways to gather your views, including
focus groups, surveys, consultations and public meetings. Each NP
attends a range of community events or spends time in community
venues in their area to be available to meet people. and hear about
local concerns.
There are also nominated local community representatives on each
NP (usually from the Community Council), who make sure the views
and concerns of people in the community are fed into the NP.
How can we support your initiatives?
We are not only interested in what we can do - we also support
you to.
We can give small grants of up to £5,000 for local activities
that meet local needs. Help us spend this on something that will
support your community.
