Overall, the results are very positive and show
significant improving trends in customer
satisfaction over the past 3years. Satisfaction
with the way the Council is managing
neighbourhoods and frontline services has
increased each year.
The survey also highlights areas for
improvement and the Council is committed to
acting on this feedback and keeping
residents informed of progress.

WHAT EDINBURGH RESIDENTS THINK ABOUT THEIR
NEIGHBOURHOODS
ANNUAL NEIGHBOURHOOD SURVEY 2008
EACH YEAR, SERVICES FOR COMMUNITIES ASKS RESIDENTS FOR THEIR VIEWS
ON THEIR NEIGHBOURHOOD; WHAT ARE THE BEST THINGS; WHAT NEEDS TO BE
IMPROVED AND WHAT THEY THINK ABOUT THE SERVICES THAT THE COUNCIL
PROVIDES.
THIS TELLS US WHAT THE PUBLIC THINKS ABOUT THINGS LIKE STREET
CLEANING, ROAD MAINTENANCE, RECYCLING AND PARKS IN EVERY
NEIGHBOURHOOD.
IN AUTUMN 2008, JUST OVER 5,000 EDINBURGH RESIDENTS FROM ACROSS THE
CITY TOOK PART IN THE SURVEY, (THE LARGEST OF ITS KIND IN THE
UK).
KEY FINDINGS
OVERALL THE RESULTS FOR THE CITY AS A WHOLE ARE VERY POSITIVE WHEN
COMPARED WITH 2007:

SATISFACTION WITH NEIGHBOURHOOD MANAGEMENT IS 67% (UP FROM
63%)
-
SATISFACTION WITH NEIGHBOURHOODS AS A PLACE TO LIVE IS 86%
(UNCHANGED)
-
SATISFACTION WITH LOCAL SERVICE DELIVERY HAS INCREASED IN 19
OUT OF 30 SERVICES
THE TOP FIVE MOST FREQUENTLY MENTIONED PRIORITIES FOR
IMPROVING QUALITY OF LIFE IN NEIGHBOURHOODS ACROSS THE CITY
WERE:
1. ACTIVITIES FOR CHILDREN /
YOUTHS
2. PAVEMENTS, ROADS AND
DRAINS
3. ACTION AGAINST ANTI SOCIAL
BEHAVIOUR ISSUES
4. STREET CLEANING
5. MORE AMENITIES
THE FINDINGS WILL BE USED TO CONTINUALLY IMPROVE LOCAL
SERVICE DELIVERY ACROSS THE CITY.
