From Maggies -  We have had a look at the forecast and have made the decision that we will go ahead as planned for Thursday with our Christmas Fete.  If you are able to help out with home baking, raffle prize or a bottle or two for the tombola please feel free to drop it off either on Wednesday or on the actual day.  The fete will run from 2pm till 7pm and no matter what the weather is like on Thursday we will be here to greet you with a warm cup of mulled wine! From Food Hygiene - there are two new dates for REHIS Elementary Food Hygiene courses being held in the New Year. This course is certificated by REHIS. There is a short multiple question paper at the end to receive the certificate. Places are free to community organisations and community members. If you would like a place please email to lmclellan@edinburghcommunityfood.org.uk: the name of the participant, address the certificate to be posted to and a contact phone number in case of bad weather.

Two options

Course One - 11th January 9.30-4.00 Full day course. In Broomhouse exact venue to be confirmed.

Course Two - Thursday 20th and 27th January 9.30-12.30 and 9.30-1.30. Being held in Broomhouse exact venue to be confirmed. For this course the participant MUST attend on the 20th and 27th to complete the course.

From Drylaw Neighbourhood Centre - If you know of anyone who likes to knit, sew, make their own jewellery, cards, gifts or perhaps christmas decorations, DNC are running craft sessions between 11am & 2pm on Wed 24th Nov & 1st & 2nd Dec. People can choose to come along for the whole of part of the time. They need to bring their own materials. For further information please call the centre on 315 4989.

From Edinburgh's Telford College - Telford Students WoW and Launch New Radio Station   Edinburgh's Telford College is delighted to announce the launch of its new college radio, Radio WoW, which will begin broadcasting from the College's studios from Monday 22 November 2010. Available to listen online at www.radiowow.co.uk, Radio WoW is the creation of the 'HNC Creative Industries: Radio' staff and students, who as part of their course study digital production techniques, as well as develop the skills of interviewing, music programming, digital operations, newsroom operations and radio commercials production. Radio WoW will be broadcasting live from Monday to Friday, from 8am to 10am; and 12pm to 2pm, commencing Monday 22 November 2010. For further information visit www.radiowow.co.uk.

From CORE -     CORE is looking to recruit a volunteer to offer support to the Administrator with the day to day running of the office. The volunteer will help with various tasks such as answering the telephone, greeting visitors, photocopying, mail outs and supporting the team with administrative tasks. From The Edinburgh Food and Health Training Hub -   we are running a basic nutrition course for any staff, volunteers or community members to attend. Places are free. The training will be held over 2 mornings. 9.30 - 12.30 - 22nd November, 9.30-1.30 - 23rd November. Participants need to attend both session and pass the very short multiple answer question paper to receive a certificate (REHIS Food and Health). From Food and Health Training Hub - The Edinburgh Food and Health Training Hub is trying to collect information on food and health work with older people. This may be lunch clubs, cooking sessions or delivery/shopping services. We want to know more about the needs of older people around food and ways in which the food and health training Hub might be able to help. I have attached a questionnaire which it would be helpful if you could fill out and return or/and forward on to other that might be interested. From 4Winds Inspiration Centre: Four winds announce the sad news that they are unable to run the Treefest this year due to lack of funding, although classes will continue to run all year round.

Four Winds Inspiration Centre is an Environmental Education & Craft based Charity. Established in 1998, Four Winds is a grass roots organisation, working for the benefit of present and future generations. From Park and Greenspace Dept: The first draft of the new Allotment Strategy 'Cultivating Communities: A Growing Concern' has now been completed and was presented to the Transport, Infrastructure and Environment Committee on 9 February 2010. From Childline: Help ChildLine in Scotland make sure no child's cry for help goes unheard. The NSPCC's ChildLine service in Scotland is the free and confidential service for children and young people with any problem. Trained volunteers provide advice and support, by phone and online, 24 hours a day on a range of issues including bullying, abuse, neglect, sexuality, pregnancy and facts of life.

Volunteers are at the heart of what we do and by joining us you can help make a difference to the lives of young people. No previous experience of counselling or working with children is needed, as full training and support is provided.

From Moonwalk: The MoonWalk Edinburgh is the amazing overnight power walking marathon and half marathon taking place on the 19th of June 2010 at Inverleith Park. Over 12,000 Walkers will be taking on the Walk the Walk challenge in their spectacularly decorated bras to raise money for vital breast cancer causes. There's going to be music and entertainment and an amazing atmosphere to enjoy.

To make the event happen we need teams of people to come together and volunteer their time and talents to support the event. Volunteers will be welcoming and directing the Walkers around the MoonWalk, marshalling across the city (we're lighting it pink!), awarding the medals at the finish line and taking on many other important roles across the event. Above all, they'll be having a great time themselves, whilst helping to raise millions of pounds for vital breast cancer causes. Find out more on www.moonwalk.org

From National Childbirth Trust: Information about forthcoming Open/Taster days we are organising in the Lothian Health Board area throughout Jan 2010. These events are part of a consultation we are carrying out. We are interested in the views and experiences around maternity services especially those of dads, young parents, lone parents, migrant parents and parents whose first language is not English. Hard copies of this information are also available.

From NHS Lothian: This short 2 hour training is available to all staff working in Childrens Services within NHS, CEC and voluntary organisations. We aim to get 120 people across Edinburgh city trained in play@home so please encourage all relevant staff to attend the training so that we can get good coverage across the city.
