More About Us
Neighbourhood Partnerships are a way for
organisations to work together with local people to improve public
services and quality of life. They are a key part of the
governance arrangements for local public services, enabling the
Council and other service providers to focus their resources on the
priorities that matter to communities.
The partners involved in the Leith Neighbourhood Partnership are
the City of Edinburgh Council (Services for Communities and
Children & Families), Community Councils, Lothian and Borders
Police, Forth Ports PLC, Housing Associations, Voluntary
Organisations in Leith Together, Lothian and Borders Fire and
Rescue Service and the North East Edinburgh Local Health
Partnership.
The Partnership covers the Leith and Leith Walk Council
Wards.
The Leith Neighbourhood Partnership met in public for the first
time in September 2007. Quarterly public meetings to provide
information and consult with the Leith Community are
held in various venues in Leith. Anyone living or working
within Leith is invited to come along - see this sites events
calendar for details of meetings. Interactive and
dynamic formats are used in thematic public meetings to ensure
everyone can have their say. The Partnership also holds
regular business meetings to progress the work of the
Partnership.
The Leith Neighbourhood Partnership puts listening to local
people at the heart of their work. Community Councillors
represent local people as full members of the Leith Neighbourhood
Partnership. Thematic Sub-Groups support the
Leith Neighbourhood Partnership in their work. A strong
community representation is encouraged for these groups and
invitations are extended to the area's Community Councils,
Registered Tenants' Organisations and other appropriate community
groups to nominate a representative. A new Leith Local
Community Plan is in place for 2011 - 14. Therefore a
review is being carried out of the sub-groups required to
progress the work needed to be done to achieve the plan's
outcomes.
