Neighbourhood Environmental Projects (NEP)

The Neighbourhood Environment Programme (NEP) encourages
Liberton and Gilmerton residents to get involved in decisions for
local improvements, and allows them to have an influence on the
budget.
With the benefit of a locally managed NEP fund through the
neighbourhood partnerships (NPs), the
community is provided with a greater local accountability over
environmental spend.
The NEP helps to pull together the views of locals, which
presents NPs with a strategic overview of the
priorities across the whole area. This year alone, nearly £300,000
has been spent through the NEP fund on locally identified projects,
which are managed by the South Neighbourhood Property Management
Team.
These include the provision of security fencing and defensible
space in sheltered housing areas, new bin nests for council owned
blocks, and environmental improvement works to amenity areas.
Continued support from residents' groups is the key driving force
behind the programme.
The sub group has now met and agreed the rankings
for each of the proposed projects.
A downloadable document is available here highlighting the
proposed projects for Liberton Gilmerton.
