Edinburgh Self-Harm Project
Are you affected by self harm?
The Edinburgh Self-Harm project is a community outreach project
that aims to provide young people who self-harm with a safe and
non-judgemental environment in which they can explore their
feelings and worries in confidence. We work with young people all
over Edinburgh within the ages of 16-25.
We offer a flexible service working one to one. This generally
consists of one weekly session lasting an hour. This support can be
increased/decreased to suit the person's needs. Support is provided
in a safe and confidential environment.
Referrals are accepted from any source i.e. yourself, GP,
family, mental health worker or any other professional. A referral
is made by filling out our referral form which can be downloaded
from our website(
link)or requested by contacting the project using the
details below.
Once a referral has been made the project will contact you to
arrange an appointment for an assessment. The project aims to make
these appointments as soon as possible, although at times there is
a waiting list. In this case you would be contacted to inform you
of an estimated waiting time.
After the first 3 month review you will be eligible to
participate in a social activity of your choice(within budget and
approved by project). The purpose of these activities is to help
young people develop skills, increase confidence and reduce social
isolation. Examples of these activities are gym memberships,
courses for developing new skills, etc.
As well as support for young people, we also provide services
for professionals and parents affected by self harm. We offer
awareness raising sessions to a range of clients and arrange a
parent's group for those seeking support in helping others with
self harm. For more info on these services, don't hesitate to
contact the project
