21 Century Homes - Sighthill

As part of the 21st Century Council Homes for Edinburgh Programme, Development Groups have been set up in Pennywell and Muirhouse, Gracemount and North Sighthill. The redevelopment of these areas will contribute towards Edinburgh delivering 12,000 new affordable homes over the next ten years.

Led by the regeneration teams from the City of Edinburgh Council, each development group has representatives from local residents as well as other local stakeholders and will be heavily involved in guiding the development of the masterplan for their area.

We will be hosting further events to discuss the proposals and get your feedback at the following venues and times please see attached.

Street Naming

Neighbourhood Partnerships have an important role to play in deciding the names of new streets or developments in the community, with the aim of ensuring that selected names meet necessary guidelines and are in keeping with local, historical and geographical connections.

A bank of possible street names is now being developed and we would like to encourage anyone with ideas for inclusion which meet the criteria below, to forward these to us for discussion.

Please click here to see full list of guidelines, which include:

Street naming criteria:

·        In general new streets should be named after people, places or events associated with Edinburgh to commemorate local history, places, events or culture, and in particular any that pertain to the site, or to honour and commemorate noteworthy persons associated with the local area

·        Justification for the naming is required for each suggestion provided into the bank

·        Names should meet all of the Street Naming Criteria

The following should be avoided;

·        Duplication with any similar name already in use

·        Street names that are difficult to pronounce, awkward to spell, or where punctuation may give rise to variations

·        Names that may be construed as obscene, racist or offensive

·        Similar sounding names such as Forthview Road or Forth View Road

·        Duplication of the same street name with different endings

·        Names of living persons, or recently deceased

·        Use of abbreviations

·        Use of punctuation
