Locality Improvement Plan

Work to develop a Locality Improvement Plan (LIP) for North East Edinburgh, covering Leith, Craigentinny/Duddingston, and Portobello/Craigmillar Neighbourhood Partnerships, ran from autumn 2016 to summer 2017. It was presented to the NP Boards and approved by the Culture and Communities Committee in late 2017. This plan guides how the Council, the Police, the NHS, Fire and Rescue Service, and the third sector work with the community to deliver on local priorities in the South West. The Plan for the North East Locality can be accessed here.

The Plan sets out priorities and actions for the whole of North East Edinburgh, but also makes reference to smaller areas   experiencing the greatest level of of social and economic deprivation. This approach requires us to develop a better understanding of these communities and develop priorities for improvement.

After analysing the  Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation along with other measures of inequality we identified the following areas in the North East:

  • Greater Craigmillar
  • Restalrig/Lochend/Loganlea
  • Leith

Priorities for these areas are also detailed in the North East Locality Improvement Plan.
