Assessors describe Council department as transformational

One of the City of Edinburgh Council's busiest departments has been described as 'transformational'.

Services for Communities have been successfully accredited to Customer Service Excellence (CSE) - the government standard for customer service.

The department provides many of the Council's front-line services such as housing, parks, libraries, community safety, streetcleaning, roads and refuse collection.

Assessors from CSE said that the efforts made to change the customer experience in Edinburgh have been genuinely 'transformational'. They also commented that the service had demonstrated a very clear insight into what customers expect and need.

Mark Turley, Director of Services for Communities, said:

"I would like to thank all our hardworking and dedicated staff for their commitment to customer service and congratulate them on their success. Scrutiny of our customer service is vital if we are to form objective views about our performance. As we enter difficult times ahead we do so from a position of strength - we know what excellence is and we will work together to maintain this standard."

The Council aims to have 60% of Councils services accredited under the scheme by 2012.
