NORTH SEVERE WEATHER UPDATE FRIDAY 17 DECEMBER

Snow is forecast for Saturday night/Sunday morning, so we have made contingency plans as noted below.

City wide gritting Information on which category each street in Edinburgh falls into is now on the Council's website. On Thursday all category 1 routes in North were gritted.  All Category 2 routes were inspected and were clear, but were not treated.    Today and on Saturday city wide gritting resources will continue to work on Category 3 routes, gritting those already clear and excavating compacted ice on others.  Sunday's work will depend on the extent of snowfall. The following Category 3 routes were gritted on Thursday.  Streets highlighted in bold have been cleared of ice as well as gritted - all others still have varying degrees of ice:-

De- icing, Gritting and Clearance On Thursday staff de-iced and gritted footpaths along all arterial routes in North, checked priority areas and then carryied out normal street cleaning duties:- Today  staff de-icing and gritting footpaths and replenshing on street grit supplies in Comely Bank, House O'Hill, Muirhouse Green, West Pilton and Trinity, checking priority areas as before then carrying out normal street cleaning duties.  Over the weekend they will work with the external contractors  to de-ice and grit the following locations:-  All strategic cycleways and access rampsNew Cutt Rigg off Craighall RoadPublic area outside Private residence in Orchard Brae Avenue for dialysis patientMuirhouse areaEyre CrescentRavelston Dykes footways Denham Green areaBlinkbonny side streetsGranton Medway / Crescent and ViewGranton MainsStreets off Boswall ParkwayStreets off Boswall Drive. In the event of heavy snowfall the Task Force will revert to clearing and gritting the priority locations, namely schools, sheltered housing, bus stops, pedestrian crossings GP's surgeries, and footpatsh on arterial routes.

North Task Force

On Wednesday staff de-iced and gritted the following areas, as well as carrying out normal street cleaning duties:-   Comely Bank areas and Kinnear Rd, Buckingham Ter, Corbiehill areas, House O' Hill, Muirhouse Drive, Muirhouse Ave, Muirhouse Place, W.Pilton Gdns to Pennywell Rd inner, Crewe Pl, Crewe Loan, Denham Green areas, Earl Haig and Trinity areas   Today we have staff gritting footpaths on all arterial routes in North area, checking priority areas as before then carrying out normal street cleaning duties.

Additional resources On Wednesday there were staff with mechanical shovels, bobcat, JCB, mini-diggers, fork lift, flat bed lorries, dumpers and loaders, continued to work on snow clearance, gritting and de-icing in:-   Carfrae Park, Gardens and surrounding areas, Strachan Road, Hillpark Brae and Learmonth   Today they are continuing in the Carfraes, Hillpark and Learmonth, then moving onto Denholm Green & Terrace, and Craigcrook Road.

Weather Response Update from North Neighbourhood - 1700hrs Sunday 5 Dec

Snow being removed from Craigcrook Road (approx 70 tonnes) and dumped at Gypsy Brae.

Continuing to clear foot paths in Easter Drylaw.

All schools in North Neighbourhood Craigroyston, Trinity Academy, Blackhall Primary, Granton Primary, Stockbridge Primary, Trinity Primary and Wardie Primary, a path will be cleared from bus stops to crossings and then to school entrance.

Attempting to gain vehicle accesses to Dean Village via Dean Path.
