Our functions are in common with those of other Community
Councils, as laid out in Section 51 (2) of the Local Government
(Scotland) Act 1973, and any other specific functions which may be
agreed between the Community Council and the City of Edinburgh
Council.
In brief, the topics we consider cover issues raised by local
residents, traders and Community Councillors, of concern to those
who live or work in the area.
These can be for instance:
- planning applications or proposals, such as a recent Masterplan
for Portobello
- consultation with residents and community groups,
- Portobello Conservation Area, including the kilns, signs and
plaques,
- issues raised by the Neighbourhood Partnership including
Environment, Health, Economy Community Safety and Regeneraion of
the local area.
Local Councillors and the MSP for the area attend meetings. All
meetings are open to the public, who are welcome and encouraged to
attend.
