Community councils are voluntary groups of people who care about their community and want to make their area a better place to live.  They play an important role in local democracy by representing the views of local people and conveying these to a range of organisations.

There are currently 41 community councils operating in Edinburgh out of a possible 46 areas.  Requests have recently been received to establish community councils in Wester Hailes and Juniper Green.

Community Councils - a vital part of Neighbourhood Partnerships

Community councils are represented on each of the 12 neighbourhood partnerships which have been established across the city.

As members of neighbourhood partnerships, community council representatives act to ensure that their community can have a say in the way services are delivered in the local area. Community councils aim to represent their area by seeking and expressing the views of their whole community.
