More About NPs

Working together to make your area a better place to be.

What is a Neighbourhood Partnership?

We have 12 Neighbourhood Partnerships (NPs) in Edinburgh.

Each NP is made up of a variety of people including local Councillors representing the Council , representatives from the PoliceHealth the voluntary sector and of course the local community, represented by community councils.

Each NP has a range of action groups which involve further local people as well as staff from partner organisations. Together, they work to deal with priorities for the area.

Much of the work of NPs is coordinated through a local community plan, which explains what needs to be done, and how it will be done. You can find copies of the Local Community Plans in each NP's area on this website.

Improving the way we work

On 30 September 2009, a one off event - Going Forward Together - was held for 185 delegates representing each of the 12 NP areas. The day aimed to help us work better as partners by focussing on what we can achieve together.
You can find out more about that event by reading the report from the day.

Listening to you

Because you live in your local community, you know the local issues and have ideas about how public services could be improved.

Your views are very important.

They help NPs to write local community plans, to agree priorities for the area and to know about any issue that needs to be addressed. We are always interested in hearing from you directly.

NPs gather your views in a number of ways, including focus groups, surveys, consultations and public meetings. We attend a range of community events and spend time in local community venues so we can meet local people and hear about local concerns.

Issues and concerns of communities are also fed into NPs through the nominated local community representatives on each NP (usually from the Community Council). These represenentatives make sure they find out what the views of people in the community are.

Supporting your initiatives - community grants fund

NPs can give small grants of up to £5,000 for local activities that meet local needs. Help us spend this on something that will support your community.

NPs also manage funding for the Neighbourhood Environment Programme which can fund small scale improvements to the local area or environment, identified by local people.
