Latest News in Portobello and Craigmillar
The Council has been granted planning onsent for a new Neighbourhood Office in Craigmillar, on the site off the old St Francis primary school.
The new East Neighbourhood Office and Craigmillar Library will provide real opportunities to improve local service delivery. The new building supports the ongoing regeneration of Craigmillar and will form part of the development of the new town centre.
Bringing staff together from several Council departments, and possibly the Police, will improve joint working. This will make it easier for the local community to access the services they need.
Work is on schedule and it is hoped that the building will be open for business by early 2013.

Both Portobello and Craigmillar have been awarded significant funding from the Scottish Government's Town Centre Regeneration Fund.
PARC have been awarded £2 million to help revitalise Craigmillar's Town Centre, and Portobello has been awarded £582,014 to make improvements there.

The East Youth Forum has co-ordinated a wide range of activities throughout the East area for young people over the summer. Many activities are free or available at a small cost.

A meeting will be held for all community planning partners in Edinburgh to offer views on how to regenerate and rejuvenate Scotland's town centres and local high streets will be held on Wednesday 1 October 2008 at the West Lothian Room, Midlothian Chambers on George IV Bridge, EH1 1RN.
