Local Community Plan 2014-17

Portobello And Craigmillar

This page outlines the summary version of the plan below.  To full the full version click here.

Neighbourhood Partnerships bring local people, elected members and service providers together. Working together delivers better results for communities and saves money.

To shape this Local Community Plan 2014/17 we asked 100s of local people of all ages what a 'perfect' area would look like and what needs to be done to make it a reality?

Perfect would be:

Portobello And Craigmillar Perfect Wordcloud

To make it happen: better roads, more things for children and young people to do, clean streets with less dog fouling, more affordable housing and good schools.

Over the next 3 years we will let local people decide who gets money from our Community Grants Fund. Work with local people to deliver an area that is safe, green and clean, where people say they have good health. Help our children and young people do well, have fun and have opportunities for jobs and training.

Our priorities

Supporting children, young people and families

  • Deliver our extended school holiday programme and work to fill gaps that young people have told us about
  • Support community input into development of the two new high schools

Improving health and wellbeing

  • Work with young people to deliver a youth event during Mental Health Awareness week and to make other health services more youth friendly

Creating safe, clean and strong communities

  • Deliver a clean area with less dog fouling, good roads, parks and green spaces
  • Take early action to keep the area safe including seasonal problems such as school holidays, bonfire night and on the beach
  • Increase local input and influence

Improving employment opportunities

  • Build on current links with the Bio-Quarter and other local opportunities to increase jobs and training especially for young people
