The BIG project
The Big Project is a community based Youth and Children's Project providing a wide range of services to children and young people aged from 5-15 years. The majority of children and young people who use our services come from Broomhouse, North Sighthill, Saughton Mains, Stenhouse, Calders or Carrick Knowe and between them attend 5 Secondary and 6 Primary schools. Delivering high quality youth provision and adopting a flexible approach, we respond to local needs as and when they arise. Our core programme is therefore balanced with an ever-changing range of additional activities tailored to meet individual needs.

Smilechildcare
Smilechildcare provide high quality, affordable, flexible childcare for up to 200 children aged 0 - 12 years each day to enable families on low income and in further education to secure and sustain long term employment and help break the cycle of deprivation.

The Broomhouse Centre
The Broomhouse Centre is a Registered Scottish Charity and a Company Limited by Guarantee. The Broomhouse Centre was established in 1991 and aims to provide personal, social and community development opportunities for people in and around Broomhouse. The Broomhouse Centre has 19 members of staff and 105 volunteers and was recently awarded the Investing in Volunteers Award.
The centre manages 9 projects including:
Youth Befriending Service - is a befriending service for young people aged between 5 and 18. It provides one to one support for young people who are experiencing problems at home, at school or in the community.
Young Carers' Support Project - offers respite for young carers from the ages of 7 to 18 by way of weekly support groups (Mondays for 7-11 year olds and Wednesdays for 12-18 year olds).
Young People's Counselling Service - operates during school term and offers the majority of sessions within school hours on school premises.
Parent & Toddlers - Many parents and their children meet in the centre on a Friday morning to chat, share experiences and play with their children.

Wester Hailes Youth Agency
The Youth Agency strives to promote, establish, and operate sustainable services and facilities, which integrate environmental, social and economic factors for the benefit of young people aged 8-25, within Wester Hailes and the surrounding communities of Broomhouse, Sighthill, Parkhead, Baberton, Juniper Green and Longstone.

YSTEP (Young People's Smoking, Tobacco, Education and Prevention)
Free accessible training for staff working with parents/carers of children under 5, this is NOT a stop-smoking initiative, but a health promotion programme supporting parents to make realistic changes to protect their children from the effects of second hand smoke.
- Free training for staff working with parents/carers of children under 5
- Free smoking prevention training for volunteers, youth workers, teachers and anyone working with young people
- Free resources you can borrow from Wester Hailes Library
- Help with developing policies
- Support and resources for developing Curriculum for Excellence lesson plans and delivering these in schools
- Workplace initiatives to encourage young people aged 16-25 who don't already smoke not to start

WHALE Arts Agency
WHALE Arts is based in purpose built art space in the heart of the Westburn estate in Wester Hailes. Our vision is to use the arts to inspire change for our community and the people who live here.
The programme includes activities for adults and children of all ages, which vary from long running groups, to short projects, to one off performances and events. When we say 'arts', we mean almost anything creative you can think of - music, drama, photography, film, dance, painting, books and much more.
WHALE Arts provides out of school hours opportunities for children and young people to get creative and learn positive life lessons from taking part in the arts. Our Eco Arts and Craft Club involves children aged 3 to 13 in using recycled materials for making art, learning about how they can affect the environment they live in as they have fun. And our weekly Street Arts project engages young people in arts activities on the streets where they gather, even before they have made the decision to come into the WHALE Arts building.

SERVICES OFFERED
One to One Advice and Information: One to one confidential advice and information, advocacy and support for people experiencing racial discrimination, abuse and/or harassment. Advice on welfare benefits, health, education, basic immigration, housing and employment.
Youth Work: Opportunities for children and young people to further develop their social skills through organised play and activities, and tackle issues that concern them as stated by the young people themselves.
Group Work: Opportunities for adults to come together to overcome isolation and barriers to participation.
Awareness Raising: Build awareness and knowledge in a range of contemporary issues relevant to the daily life of ethnic minority individuals. Opportunities to learn new skills, which empower them to participate effectively in all aspects of civic life.
Community Engagement: Supporting and facilitating development of social capital among minority ethnic communities to engage with local service- delivering partners to achieve equal access.
