Don't Blame the Dog
Don't Blame The Dog was a pilot project running throughout the South neighbourhood during November 2015, focussing on two 'hot spot' areas of Moredun and Burdiehouse Burn Valley Park.
Environmental Wardens, Community Safety Officer and Police Officers worked in partnership to deliver a series of patrols, both high visibility and plain clothed, from 7.00 am until 2.00 am, on foot and in vehicles, seven days a week with a view to addressing the issue of people not picking up after their dogs.
We hoped that our project made irresponsible dog owners think twice about not picking up after their dog. If you see owners acting irresponsibily you can report them to the South's Environment Team. Please phone 0131-529 5151 or email

Dog fouling is a subject which gets people angry. It's dirty, dangerous and it is an offence under Section 1 of the Dog Fouling (Scotland) Act 2003 to allow your dog to foul in any open public space or communal area and not pick up immediately. This offence is covered by a £80 fixed penalty which rises to £100 if not paid within 28 days and if not paid then fines can be issued up to £500.
