YouthTalk Logo 2013.jpgMaking good on the pledges...

There has been a great deal of commitment from local young people to identify what the issues are that they feel need to be addressed in their community.  All you need to do is take a look at the '2012/2013 Facilities & Activities Review' to see the commitment here...

The 'YouthTalk13' event then held on June 14th 2013 at Liberton High School helped to identify possible solutions to those issues identified and all involved were clear - positive action was needed!  You can read more here...

Since then local agencies and service providers have pledged to take forward the issues and suggestions identified by our local young people.  See what happened  here... and then here...  At Gracemount High School on November 21st 2013 over 20 organisations, individuals and local young people got together again to develop a further number of joint pledges, this time they identified 3 key themes.

They are:

  • Recognise young people's positive contributions to their communities through accredited awards
  • Better support and information in respect of LGBT (Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender) issues
  • Develop 'Life Skills' programmes in high schools aimed at school leavers

These joint pledges have now formed the backdrop to the 'YouthTalk' priority that has been written into the new Liberton Gilmerton Local Community Plan 2014-17.  Therefore local young people, partners and other organisations are currently working on some exciting projects and opportunities that will feature throughout the coming years.  Watch this space! :)

Remember - we're still listening!  Having something to share?  We want to know about it.

Tell us here...

Local young people also made these posters showing the progress made thus far!
