South Centra£ Decides 2016 - The Results

On Saturday the South Central Neighbourhood Partnership had over £200,000 worth of funding available for distribution in 2016/17 and residents of South Centre Voiced their Choice and decided which projects got funded.
This type of approach is called Participatory Budgeting or PB as it is often known. It's a system where local people decide on local money. Check our FAQs to find more about PB.
It was a great day and many contratulations to everyone who participated. All the projects do great work and were worthy of funding. Local people had some hard choices to make but decided which was their favourites.
An evaluation of the event was presented to the Neighbourhood Partnership at its meeting on 13th June 2016. Click here to download a copy of the report. At that meeting the Neighbourhood Partnership agreed to support future Participatory Budgetting Activities - so watch this space!
Community Grants:
We had a budget of £24,000 with 21 grant applications, totalling £37,614, for consideration. Undernoted is the list of the winners in order of popularity.

Those projects listed below unfortunately were not successful. However, we hope that they managed to attract some new volunteers/members and had a good chance to chat to the public and let them know more about what they do. Neighbourhood Environment Programme: This is money the Council allocates each year for the community to decide how it is spent. It is split into two "pots" but both can be spent on footpath improvements, pavement improvements, installation of dropped kerbs, fancy paving stone in certain spots, guard rails (designed to prevent children running from a park straight out onto a main road). Housing Revenue Fund: We have a budget of £130,000 and 15 projects with a middle estimated total of just over £200,000.
Not all of the projects can be completed and local people were asked to list them in order of priority. Our Property Team staff will start on the projects and work down the list until the budget is exhausted.

Roads Capital:
We've got a budget of £67,000 and 8 proposals with an estimated total cost of £124,000.
As with the HRA Projects not all of the projects can be completed and local people were asked to list them in order of priority. Our Roads Team will start on the projects and work down the list until the budget is exhausted.
SC004 Nicolson Street - Re-surface East footway, from Varsity Music North to Drummond Street
SC005 Nicolson Street - Resurface East footway, from Hill Place to West Richmond Street
SC003 Braid Road - Resurface East footway at junction with Cluny Gds south to Morningside Parish Church
SC001 Granville Terrace/Gilmore Place: Resurface footway, between Merchiston Av & Viewforth Terrace
SC002 Braid Road - Resurface North end. Approx 15m south from junction with Cluny Gardens.
SC008 Greenbank Lane - Re-align kerblines at junctions with Greenbank Drive & Greenbank Road.
SC006 Greenbank Road (North End) - Re-align kerbline at the junction with Greenbank Crescent.
SC007 Greenbank Road (South End) - Re-align kerbline at the junction with Greenbank Crescent.
