Dumbiedykes Quality of Life Group
Dumbiedykes is a community which lies close to the city centre, and which suffers from higher levels of disadvantage than other areas in South Central.
Considerable achievements have been made in recent years to improve the physical appearance of the area, but a number of social problems remain. These include effects of alcohol or drug misuse, anti social behaviour, unemployment and a life expectancy age which is lower than the city average.
The group has been formed to take forward locally identified issues such as:
- Programmes designed to help school leavers go on to a positive destination.
- Partnership work to provide relevant and successful diversionary activities for young people.
- Provide support that will help people look for work and also to help them keep a job.
- Improvements to the local environment.
- Support of elderly residents to ensure they have access to the services they need to help them live independently.
