Morningside Library closes for refurbishment

In April 2011 all the books, furniture and fittings were cleared from Morningside library so that the much anticipated refurbishment work could begin.
More than 800 library users helped shape the refurbishment plans and using their feedback the library will undergo a major transformation by adding an upper level, creating new community rooms, adding an IT suite and renovating the existing space.
Following a closely-contested tendering process, T & A Kernoghan Holdings Ltd was appointed as the contractor for the project.
It is anticipated that Morningside Library will reopen following the transformation in early 2012.
While the work is being carried out, a mobile library service is in operation opposite Morningside Library in Falcon Road West. Customers can also go to their local libraries at Newington and Oxgangs, as well as the Central Library on George IV Bridge. There is a full selection of adult, children's and teenage books as well as large print and audio books on the vehicle. A free reservation service continues to operate from the mobile library for any items from other branches of Edinburgh City Libraries.
From 28 June to 29 August our younger readers will be able to take part in the Circus Stars Summer Reading challenge which will offer prizes, medals and certificates for all participating children who read six books from the library within those dates. Ask any member of staff for more information.
